KIDS DICTIONARY & THESAURUS Book Companions
I absolutely love Usborne’s Dictionary and Thesaurus for children.
These books are perfect for expanding vocabulary, learning new words, learning about synonyms and incorporating “fancy” words into children’s speaking and writing.
We also start learning about alphabetical order in first grade, and this dictionary is perfect for learning ABC order!
I have my second grader write one new word a day to practice her handwriting too. She loves looking at the pictures and learning new words.
“Mom! Did you know that biennial means it happens every two years?!”
These are so cute to put in a reading/writing/literacy center. I love watching them new learn so many new words.
Vocabulary is one of the BIG 5 components research says helps kids become successful readers and writers.
Print the mini dictionary, cut and staple it. There is a spot to draw a mini picture and write a definition for a new word.
For the thesaurus printables, you just need one front cover, but then you can print the other pages multiple times so children can add new words as they go.
Like all Usborne books, the pictures are wonderful and so engaging for kids.
My daughter loves to just read through and look at all the pictures and read the definitions.
You can even print multiple pages of the same letter and make “B Books” or “C Books”
The possibilities are endless, but both the thesaurus and dictionary are perfect for a wide variety of ages ranges.
