ANIMAL REPORTS FOR KINDERGARTEN & FIRST GRADE
We love reading and writing about animals!
These units are the perfect way to introduce informational, nonfiction writing.
My students are so engaged with the real life photographs and animals.
Print the tiger unit for FREE right here on this blog post.
Every animal is setup the exact same way, and this will save you so much time explaining expectations and directions.
I include everything your students will need, from start to finish, to create their animal report and craft.
These units all started with Unit 6 in my primary writing series.
I had so many requests to cover more animals, so this animal reports series was born!
You can watch a video of how I implement these activities below.

HOW DO WE LEARN, READ AND WRITE ABOUT EACH ANIMAL?
Each unit comes with everything you need to teach your students about five animals. The setup is exactly the same!
We start with the reading passages. We focus on the words are, can, have, eat, live and like for each animal.
I read the passage first, then we choral read it altogether and finally I have students whisper read it by themselves or with a buddy. This builds fluency, confidence and comprehension.
Now that we have learned about each animal, next we move on to taking notes.
Materials are setup in a way that students can take notes directly from the reading passages.
They then can turn these notes into complete sentences using the blank writing paper for each animal or they can complete the sentence starter provided.
Differentiated printables make scaffolding a breeze.
ALL ABOUT ANIMAL BOOKS
We make adorable mini books for each animal. Students can write a sentence and draw a picture on each page. They love sharing what they have learned with their friends and family.
DISPLAYING WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED
Children love to show off what we have learned! We make writing craftivities that make adorable bulletin board displays.
