“This is amazing! Thank you for all your hard work!”
On the first day of kindergarten, most of my students arrive to class having no concept of 1:1 correspondence, they don’t know numbers 1-20, most can’t name 2D shapes or 3D solids, and they have never heard of adding, subtracting, measuring or graphing.
By the time they are ready to leave me and head off to first grade, my students can fluently add and subtract within 5, they have strong counting and cardinality skills, they understand number bonds, number lines and ten frames, they can compose and decompose shapes, they can compare and contrast different ways to measure and graph, my students can write numbers 1-20 (if not higher!) plus so much more.
Let me show you how math in kindergarten can be fun, engaging, sequential and standards based.
